Hewlett Packard began work on HP3000 line of servers in 1968. Eventually they were launched in 1972. This class of servers were designed to accommodate multiple users at the same time. Initially there were many hick-ups as these systems continue to hang when multiple users tried accessing applications. American president Jimmy Carter was the first American president to bring a server class of computers in the white house. Over time HP3000 systems with Multi-Programming Executive and DBMS database became robust servers.
